THE MILLERS (Gregg and Brian Miller)

Gregg's love affair with mushrooms started in the mid-1970s when someone first showed him where to find chanterelles and morels and how to cook them. A year spent at a biological research reserve in southern Michigan deepened his knowledge as he worked through mushroom identification using the first edition of David Arora's Mushrooms Demystified. The massive mushroom fruitings during California's El NiƱo years in the early 1980s gave him incredible opportunities to learn and really shaped his expertise.

Members of the Mycological Society of San Francisco (MSSF) encouraged Gregg to start sharing his enthusiasm by leading mushroom forays for the group. During a stint in Southern California, he led walks at several nature reserves before returning to Northern California, where he's continued leading forays at Point Reyes, Salt Point State Park, and in the Sierras for both the MSSF and the Sonoma County Mycological Association (SOMA).

His son Brian has been hunting and identifying mushrooms for most of his life, from the Sierra to the Bay Area and beyond. He spends much of fall and winter wandering through local forests in search of edible and extraordinary fungi. Brian has built a solid reputation as a knowledgeable foray guide through his work with LandPaths, the Mycological Society of San Francisco, the Sonoma County Mycological Association, and leading private Sierra forays.

After decades of finding and teaching about fungi, both Gregg and Brian love nothing more than wandering through forests and fields, sharing what they've learned with fellow mushroom enthusiasts.
