Sonoma County Foraging
Sonoma County Mushroom Foraging
Ready to discover the wild side of Sonoma County? Join our expert guides for 3-4 hour adventures through coastal trails and beautiful inland forests, where you'll learn to find and identify wild mushrooms while practicing sustainable foraging.
Autumn Summers - Autumn's been foraging for over 30 years and loves sharing her ethnobotanist perspective. Her classes dive into wild plants and sustainable practices, showing you how everything in the forest connects. If you're curious about the bigger picture of plant communities and ecosystems, you'll love learning with Autumn.
Patrick Hamilton and the Millers - Join Patrick and the Millers (Gregg and Brian) for a different kind of mushroom hunt. Patrick, known as the "Mycochef," has been finding and cooking wild mushrooms for over 40 years. Gregg fell in love with fungi decades ago and has been leading people through Northern California's forests ever since. Brian grew up hunting mushrooms everywhere from the Sierra to the Bay Area. With three experienced guides, you'll get plenty of personal attention and different viewpoints on what you're discovering. Plus, you'll head home with some dried mushrooms to remember your adventure!
Here's how both adventures work: we start with the basics, take you on a guided walk, then let you explore and hunt on your own before coming back together to see what treasures everyone found. People regularly discover chanterelles, boletes, black trumpets, morels, hedgehogs, and other amazing mushrooms.
Please note that, although our foragers often go home with mushrooms, we are at the whim of nature, so we can’t guarantee you’ll find any on your trip. We can, however, promise that you’ll have a great time and learn a ton about foraging!
This event is for ages 6 and up. We love having Jr. Foragers join our classes. Kids ages 6-12 are welcome to join a paying adult for FREE. We do ask that groups are limited to 2 free kid tickets.
