Private coastal harvest and cooking

A private coastal day built around crab, clam, mussel, or another shoreline food, ending with the best part: a big meal together from what your group just learned to harvest and prepare.

Based on forageSF public crab, clam, mussel, and sea-foraging classes around Bodega Bay, Tomales Bay, Half Moon Bay, and the Sonoma Coast.

What the day can feel like

This is the food-forward version: your group heads to the coast, learns what can be harvested responsibly, then gathers around a real meal together when the format allows.

It can be one of the most memorable private events we do, but it needs more planning than a plant walk.

The meal is a big part of the point

The cooking and eating together is what makes this feel different from a normal outdoor class. Your group isn't just hearing about coastal food; they're cleaning, preparing, cooking, and sitting down around it.

There's something simple and great about eating food you just found by the water. That's the part people keep talking about later.

What your group can learn

How tide, season, location, and local rules shape what is possible on the coast.

How to identify good harvest areas, handle coastal foods safely, and understand why licenses and limits matter.

How the cooking piece works, from cleaning and prep to the simple pleasure of eating something your group just found.

Good fit for

Groups with flexible dates and a real appetite for a hands-on coastal day.

Teams, client groups, birthdays, retreats, and friend groups that want a bigger adventure.

People who are comfortable with weather, uneven terrain, wet sand, shells, buckets, and some practical logistics.

Planning notes.

  • Fishing licenses may be required depending on the format and location.
  • Tides, weather, season, guide availability, tools, and cooking setup drive the final plan.
  • Tell us your date range first. We'll be direct about whether this can work or whether a plant walk is a better fit.

Compare the other options.

If this is close but not quite right, these are the other private-event starting points.

Ask about coastal harvest.

Send the basics and we'll help with the rest. The adventure field is already set to the closest fit.

Send enough to point us in the right direction. We can fill in exact location, route, and logistics after we know the date and group.

  • Date or flexible window.
  • Group size and occasion.
  • Location preference or property address, if relevant.
  • Anything your group needs to feel comfortable outside.
